How did you hear about SPENGA?

We live in Carmel and my wife saw SPENGA at Clay Terrace and suggested I check it out, as I was looking for a new fitness center last year.

Has exercise always been part of your life?Scott Zigmond at spenga carmel

Yes, I was a high school athlete and exercise was “mandatory fun” as a cadet at West Point and as an Army officer.  It was actually a graded exercise at West Point, so it was one of the few classes I could help my GPA.  I have spent more time and focus on it over the last 10 years.

What keeps you motivated?

My wife, Joanie, and I have five daughters ranging in age from 16-28.  That’s about as much motivation as I need…..want to stay in the game!

What is your favorite exercise or workout?

Favorite is probably not the right word, but the Yoga is something I look forward to every workout due to the stretching aspect of it.  When I evaluated other fitness places, the Yoga piece of SPENGA was a differentiator for me and I know flexibility is one of the keys to staying healthy.

How many times a week do you WERKOUT with SPENGA?

3-4 times per week depending on my travel schedule. I try to work out over lunch and am grateful that the showers are back in working order from Covid (and my teammates at work appreciate it, too!).

Where are you from and where do you currently live?

Born in Cleveland, OH, grew up in Chicagoland and have lived in NY, OK, Germany, Somalia, NH, and WI.  We have lived in IN for 21 years with the last 14 being in Carmel.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by people who serve one another and by those who have a strong faith in the Lord, especially during difficult times.  Also, Army beating Navy in every sport or academic event is inspiring!

What is your favorite part of SPENGA?

The personal challenge of getting better every day is a great challenge and keeps me moving forward.

Where is your favorite place to go out for drinks/date night/meet friends out? (or you can tell us another favorite...like favorite place for coffee, pizza etc)

Lately it’s been Fork and Ale in Mid-town Carmel or Matt the Millers.  For breakfast, probably Café Patachou.
